The appropriate assessment and treatment for elevated blood pressure

The appropriate assessement and treatment for elevated blood pressure

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project description will be based on inaccuracy of blood pressure reading in a medical office setting and the need for appropriate treatment depending on the cause of elevated blood pressure. The inaccuracy of the blood pressure reading in the office may be due to several reasons for instance anxiety or white coat syndrome.

The prepared DNP nurse will reconsider the elevated readings in the medical visit and have these patients monitor their blood pressure in a comfortable environment as opposed to in a stressful situation. The DNP prepared nurse will recommend teachings of normal blood pressure readings to have their patients to monitor the blood pressure at home. Today’s time many medical providers are immediately diagnosing patients after several visits (3 visits) of elevated blood pressure readings. However, these visits with the elevated blood pressure readings tend to not be accurate enough.

Therefore, these patients should have the opportunity and chance to monitor their blood pressure at home before being considered as a hypertensive patient. Monitoring blood pressure at home can indicate better readings and reductions for those with and not with hypertension. The DNP prepared nurse will be a catalyst as a change to reinforce the need to have these patients to be monitoring their blood pressure at a comfortable environment. The DNP prepared nurse will also consider the importance of the many causes contributing to hypertension.

The DNP prepared nurse should consider to treat the patients with high blood pressure specifically based on the cause of the elevated blood pressure. If the cause is related to anxiety, the anxiety must be rerated and if it is related to white coat syndrome, then understanding the importance to monitor the blood pressure at home is the appropriate intervention. The DNP prepared nurse must consider the differential causes of for instance if the cause is the patents diet, then recommending the DASH diet is the appropriate treatment, if the cause is due to adverse reactions from medications, then substituting the medication causing the elevated blood pressure must be needed.
