Due: 5pm Friday 12th June 2020
Value of Individual Report: 25% of total mark
Word limit for Individual Report: 2,000 words (excluding reference list)
Task:
Each student will be allocated a topic and a consultant report to analyse.
You are required to discuss and critically analyse the topic with reference to relevant Managing
Diversity & Inclusion academic literature. You should refer to conceptual and empirical research
articles. You should critically use the knowledge acquired in class plus theory and research
evidence that is relevant to Managing Diversity and Inclusion.
Key elements of your task are to:
● explain the topic,
● discuss the key points of the consultant report,
● analyse this with reference to relevant academic research on managing diversity and
inclusion, and
● offer recommendations for managers.
Your report should use a ’report format’ (see Q Manual) and include:
● Front page with title, your name and and ID number.
● Executive summary (about 200 words)
● What is the topic?
● What are the key findings or messages of your report?

MGF5130 Managing diversity and inclusion – Semester 1 (S1-01) – 2020

19
● Critically discuss the topic and the consultant report with reference to Managing Diversity
and Inclusion academic research;
● Conclusion
● Recommendations for Diversity & Inclusion managers (around 500 words)
The report is to be typed and double-spaced (a standard 12 point font should be used). It should
be checked for spelling, consistency and clarity of expression. All pages must be numbered.
You are expected to use current academic research journal articles to research this topic:
● A minimum of 10 academic journal articles is required, in addition to the textbook.
● The references used in your report should include at least three of the required and/or
additional reading articles shown in the MGF5130 Unit Guide. Please note that these
articles have been provided because they should be useful for your reports. In addition to
the weekly required reading articles and additional articles shown in the unit guide, your
report should reference recent academic articles (published in the past 5 years) in the
management field.
● Research articles report studies that present conceptual or theoretical developments,
qualitative research (e.g. a case study) or quantitative research (e.g. statistical
data). Research articles may discuss overseas or Australian studies. The journal articles
used for prescribed readings provide examples of typical research articles. As a very rough
guide, a research article is at least 8 pages long. Any brief article which is only 1 or 2 pages
long is very unlikely to have the depth of analysis expected for your report. Reliance on
textbook material is also unadvisable; it is unlikely to provide the depth of analysis expected
for your report. Other reports, website material, brief articles and textbooks may be used as
supplementary to research articles, but are not a substitute for them.
● A high level of critical analysis is expected. Clear critical analysis will be rewarded. A
description only will result in a fail. Do not rely on summarising articles. Remember to
acknowledge sources of all non-original ideas/concepts (not just direct quotations) in
endnotes/text.
● Please read and apply the University’s plagiarism policy and collusion policy. To avoid
automatic failure, please heed warnings about correct referencing. Please get assistance
with your referencing if you are in doubt.
