When They See Us (Viewing & Reflection)

This week, our extra credit opportunity comes in the form of a miniseries from Netflix called When They See Us. In this series, “Five teens from Harlem become trapped in a nightmare when they’re falsely accused of a brutal attack in Central Park. Based on the true story” (Netflix).

This series might be useful to you if you are discussing racism or monsters as the other in your essay.

If you do have time and effort to spend on watching it, and fill out the following questions, you can earn up to 15 pts of Extra Credit for the project.

The miniseries is in four parts, and each episode is about an hour long. I do understand that you might not have time or energy to binge through the entire thing, so you can receive the extra credit for just completing at least one episode although I hope you watch all four.

Questions:

  1. What was the most memorable part of the series?
  2. Is there a thought or feeling that has stuck with you that you’d like to share or discuss?
  3. How has watching this series supported, changed, or modified how you understand Cohen’s Thesis 4?

Even if you don’t have a Netflix subscription, you can see view this as you don’t have to log in to watch.
