Select a company or organization whose fairness or ethics is currently being scrutinized in the news or in social media. Provide enough background information about your selected company to convey its size and prominence in society, and then explain in detail the alleged fairness and ethics violations. Conclude your paper by choosing to support the allegations or refute them, and explain your reasoning based on what you have learned. In your discussion, be sure to include the information below.

  • Summarize the concept of fairness as it relates to decisions.
  • Explain how personal and business ethics can be subconsciously overridden in decision-making. Does your selected business exemplify this?
  • Describe how the company could improve its image regarding fairness and ethics in decision-making.

Your paper must be a minimum of three pages in length, and it should contain at least two academic references (one maybe the textbook). Please use APA formatting and citations.

Fairness is one of the ethical issues expected of everyone, including business operative. Fairness defines how just a given act or decision-making process is (Moore, 2010). Unjust decisions or conduct can damage a company’s reputation in the industry. Fairness includes ensuring equal treatment of all customers and charging uniform prices on all good to all customers served in a given business premise (Moore, 2010). On a broader category, ethics defines how different parties conduct themselves in an interactive environment, including business practices. For instance, privacy, harassment, discrimination, safety, health, compliance with established standards, and decision-making are key ethical issues expected of every business entity. Various global business companies are facing unethical issues about far practices globally. Examples of such companies include Starbucks.

Starbucks is the leading coffee seller in the US. Starbucks has also globalized over time to reach many other countries in Europe, Africa, and other continents too.  Starbucks sold its first coffee cup in Seattle, the US in 1971.
