Research on talent management

Research on talent management

Project-based Assignment (Research Report)
Students are required to research talent management, the Theory and Concept submissions and their analysis of their case study organization students are also required to address a number of specific questions about their case study organization.
The key to an effective research report is extensive research and a careful reading, analysis, and critique of the research literature. Wherever possible students should link related research literature on the same topic/theme to support the argument they are advancing in the research report.
The research report should contain a clearly designated Introduction Section that sets the scene for the research report, defines key terms, sets out the central argument about the organization’s HRM practices and workforce management challenges and the position being taken on the organization’s need for and application of performance and reward management.
The research report should contain a Background Section that provides an overview of the case study organization including its mission, vision and values, its size and functions, its corporate strategies and an overview of its key workforce management challenges. Detailed information on these facets of the case study organization should be contained in a series of Attachments to the report. Other information to be used would
include workforce profile information, key HR metrics and details of any significant changes to the organization that have workforce management implications (e.g. changes in structure, strategy, leadership, culture, resourcing levels).
The report must contain a Discussion Section should address four specific questions:
1. Recap the key workforce management challenges facing the case study organization and why these challenges are critical to the organization’s sustained effectiveness (drawing upon the research literature)?
2. Discuss the concepts of dynamic capability and strategy alignment and practice integration and why they are important in relation to strategic HRM (drawing upon the research literature)?
3. Discuss the perceived benefits of effective performance and reward management for organizational performance and review the different conceptual approaches that can be used in managing talent (drawing upon the research literature)?

4. Discuss the opportunity for practice improvement in relation to the case study organization’s performance and reward management practices and how it can be viewed as a strategically aligned practice area with some acknowledgement of the change management implications (drawing on the research literature)?

The report must contain a Findings and Conclusions Section. The Findings and Conclusions Section should address what was found from the research literature on performance and reward management, why there appears to be a gap between theory and practice and why is this an issue for the case study organization?
The report must also contain a Recommendations Section. The Recommendation Section should be ‘action oriented’ and must addresses whether and to what extent there is opportunity in the case study organization for practice improvement in talent management and what form any changes might take? Such improvements must have the potential to have benefit for employers and employees. The recommendations must draw from and be
consistent with the Discussion Section and the Findings and Conclusions Section of the report.
