You are required to undertake a patient interview during your current PEP allocation. You may use any framework you see fit that is relevant to enable you to collect the information you need in order to address the requirements of the essay. An admission document, for example, would provide you with much of the information you require, although you would need to enquire about other information as you discover more about the individual’s experience. Please ensure you take the advice of your facilitator in selecting your person to interview. Consent from the individual concerned, or their parent or carer, is absolutely essential. You will need to begin again if your chosen person is discharged, so again, please take the advice to choose carefully.

You need to write your essay based on person-centred care, demonstrating your knowledge of the theoretical underpinnings to this. In addition you will need to demonstrate knowledge and integration of safety and quality principles of patient care and also the Registered Nurse Standards for Practice.

You will be required to relate examples from your patient interview to critique against the frameworks and principles as above. Your interview notes will be submitted as an appendix, please ensure that you de-identify these notes.
