Model UN COUNTRY Statement and explanations

Model UN COUNTRY Statement and explanations

reation of a UN Emergency Peace Service (UNEPS) AND a written
explanation/justification of this position

1) The Country position statement
Assuming the position of UN member states, students will research,
develop and articulate in their statement their allocated country’s
position on the creation of a UNEPS – a standing UN service to
prevent genocide and other mass atrocity crimes.
The position statements are required for a special meeting of the UN
General Assembly, during which a draft resolution on the creation of
a UNEPS is to be discussed, negotiated and put to a vote. The
position statements must be no longer than 300 words as they are
designed to be delivered in a timeframe of 3 minutes. Students who
would choose to attend the optional Model UN exercise held at the
University of Sydney (Saturday, 17 April, 10-5 pm), would read their
statement at the Plenary meeting of the General Assembly.
2) The explanation/justification for the Country position
In addition to the position statement, students are required to prepare
and submit a brief explanation of approximately 300 words, outlining
the issues and evidence which they considered during the
preparation of their country statement. In other words, in this second
document students are expected to explain and justify the position
they have formulated for their allocated country.
