Maple Leaf Case Study

In preparing your report you should consider the answers to the following questions. Please note these are not exhaustive in terms of questions. These are only starting points to answer in your analysis and submission!

  1. Clark has asked your team to submit a report for a profit-sharing plan. You are wondering about such an incentive system for this company but you have promised to research it for him. What are you going to report? What current conditions might prove problematic for a profit-sharing plan?
  2. What problems do you see with the current incentives for production workers? Are there perhaps other incentive plans that would be suitable for this company?
  3. What might be contributing to the high turnover rate in the non-technical jobs?
  4. Clark wants you to investigate this idea that the employees have about flexible benefits. He has heard that it costs more than fixed benefits and wants no part of increased costs. You are going to advise him on the advantages and disadvantages of such a plan.
  5. Does Maple Leaf Shoes have just cause to dismiss Sam Johnson and Catherine Reading? If so, what are the company’s obligations? If not, what should the company do?
  6. Are there perhaps any underlying issues at Maple Leaf Shoes besides the obvious problems that you should have a look at in order to make the best recommendations to Clark? For instance, what might be causing the difference in wage rates?
