  1. What do you think is most important in making a great first impression during an interview setting? Why?
  2. Review Link 1 above. DeMers discusses the concept of creating a “personal brand.” Human resource experts and recruiters often cite this concept of “personal brand” as what makes one candidate outshine a competitor on the job search. Describe what you want your own “personal brand” to be (what do you want to be known for?)–e.g. an experienced accounting professional with a flair for the creative; or an aspiring entrepreneur with talent for spotting opportunity.
  3. What steps can you take to craft your own personal brand for your job search? How can you use social media to help your personal brand stand out?
  4. Review the 25 most common interviewing mistakes in Link 2 above. Which of these mistakes do you find most severe/serious? Have you ever been guilty of any of these mistakes or had an otherwise awkward/uncomfortable interviewing experience? What did you learn from the experience?
  5. As a college student, it is generally recommended that you remove high school experience from your resume. Why do you suppose this is the case? If you are in college but you still have your high school diploma, honors, and activities listed on your resume, what unfavorable assumptions or conclusions might your interviewer arrive at?
