* There were many milestones in the Civil Rights Movement. The primary sources below were part of struggles ranging from education to voting to democracy from 1954 to 1965. Choose one the sources to discuss how segregation challenged the American ideal of freedom at the time.

- Martin Luther King, “I Have a Dream,” speech delivered on August 28, 1963
