Analyzing the trait, skills, and behavioral leadership approaches can be helpful in understanding how to improve your leadership style. Utilize the assigned readings for the course, as well as additional applicable scholarly sources, to describe (in sufficient detail) by using supportive references that cite the following: 1) each of these three leadership approaches, 2) the traits, skills, and behaviors of effective leaders you have experienced, 3) the traits, skills, and behaviors you believe you possess that make you an effective educational leader, and 4) the traits, skills, and behaviors you believe you would like to change to improve your effectiveness as an educational leader.

One of the first attempts to understand leadership, the trait approach focuses on the identification of various innate personality qualities necessary for being an effective leader. The skills approach focuses on describing a set of competencies or capabilities necessary for being an effective leader. The behavioral approach focuses on the external or physical actions of effective leaders. All three of these leadership approaches operate together, rather than in isolation, to formulate and define a leader. These leadership approaches are concerned with the leader, and not on the workers or the unique situations occurring within various settings. This week’s assignment will address the trait, skills, and behavioral leadership approaches and how you might utilize this information to benefit your leadership style.
