Assess the community benefits provided by proprietary and not-for-profit hospitals.

I previously worked for a non profit organization in the mental healthcare field. I worked for a grant that was located in Forrest and Jones County. My office was located at the mental hospital. I was able to witness the pros and cons of the facility and just how important every role in the facility was in order to benefit the patients. In terms of price the community benefited tremendously. There were some patients who would come just to find somewhere to live, and get their suspended disability income started. The hospital had a relationship with other facilities in the community and most of them where resources clients could use for relocation, clothing, employment, veteran services, and physical medical problems. I had a client who was connected with a resource and she received free groceries monthly. I had a client connected to a resource and she received free dentures. I had a client I connected with a resource and she was able to receive free rent for a year at an apartment of her choosing. The most important thing I enjoy about the non profit organizations is the relationships created within the community. Non profit organizations can not withstand with the help from the community and other organizations. We would have a monthly meeting and would invite organizations from all over the state from police chiefs, hospital ceos, sheriffs, state officials, organization liaisons, and organization coordinators. In the meetings the sheriff and police would give names of mentally ill people they arrested or encountered and calls they went on where individuals were mentally ill and the other community resources would discuss ways to help the mentally ill individuals and educate the law enforcement officials on how to interact with them. The main topic of discussion was discussing resources so that “Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs” could be met and they had access to take medication daily.
